Dye sublimated photo prints on chiffon, automatic curtain track system, adhesive vinyl.
See Bird Fly uses automatic moving curtains to reveal, obscure, reframe, and recontextualize candid photographs: fighting birds, a cloud formation that resembles a famous painting, squash flowers woven through a chainlink fence. Employing computer object-recognition to select from thousands of phone photos taken over multiple years, life’s everyday documents are collected into categories and the significance of a certain moment, person, or place is confronted. See Bird Fly considers how collecting attempts—and often fails—to establish a sense of order or permanence.
See Bird Fly was a site specific project for 11m3 Projektraum, which is located in a storefront window along a busy thoroughfare. With this in mind, many of the photos used for this project were taken while in transit. Adhesive vinyl bird shapes were created based on original photographs, referencing those commonly seen on bus stops, in train stations, and along railway or highway noise barriers.
